K-1 lessons build the foundational writing skills your youngest writers need—one small, confidence-building step at a time. Here's how they're structured and organized.
K-1 Lesson Structure
Each K-1 lesson focuses on a single skill and takes about 20 minutes to complete—no skipping steps, so students build real, lasting confidence.
- Part 1: An engaging video with interactive discussion questions.
- Part 2: A step-by-step activity that guides students through the writing process, with the teacher facilitating and controlling the pace.
Every lesson also includes a vocabulary extension, and any needed worksheets are listed in the lesson's supplies.
K-1 Lesson Groups
K-1 lessons are grouped by skill. Within each group, individual lessons explore a different aspect of that skill, giving students lots of opportunities to practice.
Think of it like a wheel: the skill is the hub, and each lesson is a spoke connecting back to it. Lessons within a group aren't chronological—teach them in whatever order works for your class.

This flexible structure is why we don't offer a set pacing or planning guide—you know your students best, so you're free to choose which lesson group to teach when, and which lessons within it to prioritize, based on where your class is developmentally.
